In the high-altitude Union Territory of Ladakh, where policing comes with unique geographical and strategic challenges, IPS officer Koshal Kumar Sharma has been entrusted with the additional charge of Director General of Police (DGP). The 2012-batch AGMUT cadre officer, currently serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Leh-Kargil Range, will lead the police force until a regular appointment is made.
The decision was formalised through an order issued by the Home Department on Tuesday. Sharma takes over the responsibility following the relieving of incumbent DGP Mukesh Singh, a 1996-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer, who has been directed to report to the Government of Manipur for his next assignment with effect from May 27, 2026.
