Shamli district in Western Uttar Pradesh is witnessing many changes ever since IPS officer Sukirti Madhav Mishra took charge as the Superintendent of Police in December 2020. For law-abiding citizens, he is a composed officer who listens to their problems in a calm manner. But the same officer can also send chills down the spine of criminals, whenever required. This is the reason why the main gangsters of Shamli have all surrendered before the officer one by one.

The officer has also initiated steps to tackle the problems of cyberbullying and loud bike silencers that have become a nuisance in the district. In an exclusive conversation with Indian Mastermindsthe 2015-batch officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre talked about the measures taken up by him to make the people of Shamli feel peaceful and secure.

NO ‘PATAKHA’ SILENCER

We have all come across those big and heavy bikes with ear-shattering silencers at least once in our lives! What is fun to some can be a pain to others. Getting their bike silencers modified to emit loud ‘patakha’ noises had become a trend amongst bike riders in Shamli, too. But SP Sukirti Madhav Mishra won’t allow these riders to do anything they please.

He initiated a campaign wherein strict action was taken against people who had modified their bike silencers against the Motor Vehicle Act of the Government of India. Not only was a complaint registered against them, but they were also made to dish out a fine of Rs. 10,000.

Strict action are taken against people who had modified their bike silencers against the Motor Vehicle Act of the Government of India.

“We made people aware of the campaign through electronic and print media beforehand. People who failed to obey the rules of the campaign were then punished accordingly. 57 motorbikes (mostly bullet bikes) were fined under the MV Act for using modified silencers on them and 10 bullet bikes were seized by the police. Approximately 5 lakh 70 thousand rupees were collected under this campaign,” Mr. Mishra told Indian Masterminds.

The people of Shamli are heaving a sigh of relief as they are getting to spend their days and nights peacefully now.

BYE-BYE CYBER CRIMINALS

With the increasing use of the Internet, criminals are finding new ways to harass people and commit crimes. Cyberbullying and cybercrimes have become very common as the anonymity that the Internet provides encourages criminals to harass and deceive people. To keep a check on such online criminal activities, Mr. Mishra launched cyber cells in all the police stations of the district for quick and effective action.

“A special Cyber Crime Team (CCT) has been appointed in all the stations who attend to the complaints 24×7 and work on them immediately. Apart from this, to raise awareness among the public, seminars were organized in all the schools and colleges of the district wherein they were informed about the campaign and how they can utilize it to fight cyberbullying,” he said.

Under the awareness campaign, the public is informed about the common cybercrimes such as hacking, cracking, identity theft, IPR theft, fake profiles, QR code scam, Ponzi scheme, lottery scam, notification refund fraud, etc.

To report a cyber crime, helpline number 7839866102 has been issued. Along with this, residents can also call on 155260/112 to report such crimes.

Mr. Mishra’s efforts to allow the people to live in peace without any harassment from the bad elements of society is being praised by all in the district. He has earned the trust and confidence of the people of Shamli for the entire police department.
